Convention Bureau Manager Maternity Cover Contract

Reports to: Galway Convention Bureau Chairperson and board of directors including Fáilte Ireland representative.

Job Summary: Direct and manage the development and winning of international business tourism

( MICE Business - Meeting, Incentive, Conference, Events) efforts for the Galway region.

Person Specification: Ideally a degree in marketing, hospitality or tourism management or a closely related field with +5 years’ experience in sales management or any combination of training and experience which provide the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

  • Strong interpersonal, able to work on own initiative and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required.

  • Highly responsible, reliable & organised.

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in driving sales in regional locations.

  • Experience in meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions segment.

Key Responsibilities

• Execution and contribution of the sales & marketing operational plans and business tourism strategy to drive MICE business into the Galway region.

• Report on activities and business won to directors, key partners and members.

• Overseeing the management of the Lead conversion assistant and the sales pipeline from markets to ensure a continual flow of quality MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Events) leads to GCB

• Effectively monitor all leads from bid stage through to conversion and conversion rates.

• Monitor/track progress on all conference leads and bids and ensure that this information is entered into the CRM

• Develop and strengthen relationships with prospective ambassadors and clients.

• Execute and develop promotional events to create opportunities for GCB Partners and the region.

• Attend overseas promotional events in the markets aimed at MICE buyers where appropriate

• Manage the organisation of familiarisation trips and site inspections for prospective buyers, accompanying them on these trips.

  • Provide advice on suitable locations that match the requirements of the prospective client

• Develop and present formal bids and proposal documents for prospective clients.

• Identify and implement activities/promotions/events targeting specific industry sectors.

• Ensure practical supports within the region for ambassadors are communicated and executed, that all RFP requests are dealt with in timely manner, arrange PCO meetings with ambassadors where necessary, manage and create itineraries.

• Ensure clear communication with members and industry partners on activities and opportunities.

• Digital marketing initiatives, ezines to promote the destination where appropriate, keeping website and social media platforms up to date with relevant information and messaging.

• Develop relevant marketing collateral for events and the destination marketing it as an attractive destination for international business events.

• Budget management and accounts.

• Work in sustainability, develop current policies, progress activities, complete Global Destination Sustainability Index for the region, member training and education.

The Applicants will need to have a full clean Irish drivers licence.
