Connacht Rugby; Grassroots to Green Shirts

Connacht Rugby is located at The Sportsground in the heart of Galway City. Since formation in 1885, the club has had a rich and vibrant history, and they are now embarking into arguably the most exciting period of our 137 year history.

In the coming months Connacht Rugby will commence the next stage of a hugely significant redevelopment of their stadium. This will see the construction of a brand new, state-of-the-art High Performance Centre (HPC), which will include, among others, an extensive indoor area which can cater for 2,000 attendees in a conference and event setting.

This indoor facility will be over half the size of a full rugby pitch, making it one of the largest of its kind in the West of Ireland. Construction is due to be completed in summer 2024.

The new North Stand, which will be constructed thereafter and completed in 2025, will also have numerous facilities to cater for business and conferences. The design of the stand will allow for conferences and events and various sizes on the new hospitality level, and will also offer unparallel views of the pitch and stadium as a whole.

Connacht’s future ability to host events of this kind makes The Sportsground an incredibly unique setting that is sure to be a favourite for businesses of all sizes. The design of the new HPC has taken influence from similar setups around the world, who in turn have hosted graduation ceremonies, large-scale conferences and conventions, trade shows, and mass vaccination centres. Connacht’s ability to also host events of this size will be a gamechanger for the West of Ireland.

The location of The Sportsground also has many benefits. Being only a 5 minute walk away from Eyre Square and Galway railway station, the stadium is both easily accessible to people coming to Galway on the train and is also a stone’s throw away from the cultural and vibrant hub of the West of Ireland’s capital city. Its location on College Road on the east side of the city also makes it very accessible to those driving to the ground, with the M6 motorway just a five minute drive away and a host of parking options within walking distance of the ground.
